Usually, when we talk about the screw air compressor, we mean double rotors screw air compressor. A pair of helical rotors is arranged in parallel in the air end of the screw air compressor. We called them female rotor and male rotor. Male rotor works as the active rotor and drives the female rotor. The bearing on the rotors positions the rotor axially and withstand the axial forces in the screw air compressor. The tapered roller thrusts bearing at both ends of the rotor and withstand the axial forces in the screw air compressor.
At both ends of the air end, there are holes with the same shape and size. One is for suctioning the air, and the other is for exhausting the air.
The work of the screw air compressor includes suctioning the air, compressing the air and exhausting the air.
1. Suctioning the air: the air from the atmosphere comes into the screw air compressor through the air filter and inlet valve. Then it arrives at the air end for compressing.
2. Compressing the air: the air is compressed by the double rotors (female one and male one). And then it arrives at the oil tank. The air will be eliminated with the oil and water.
3. Exhausting the air: after removing the oil and water, the compressed air will go through the pipe to the air tank and the air dryer.
It can be seen from the above working principle that the screw compressor changes the working volume by rotating the pair of rotors in the casing, so that the air volume is reduced and the density is increased, thereby increasing the air pressure.
